Jan is educated as both pianist and singer, but finally it was the song that won his heart. His voice has carried him far both nationally and internationally, and today Jan is one of Denmark’s most wanted opera singers. Jan has sung on just about every opera and concert venue in Denmark – from the small chamber opera’s as The Opera of Funen via The Danish National Opera to The Royal Danish Opera. His repertoire is large and very broad, and he has sung in productions of the earliest operas, the big romantic classics and the contemporary music dramas of our time – often in world premiers of roles written especially to him.
Beyond the Danish music scene Jan has sung in opera and concert venues in most of Scandinavia and Europe, and in 2014 he is having his American debut at the opera in Dallas, Texas.
Apart from opera, Jan is often a soloist in the major church oratorios and he is i.e. a highly treasured evangelist in the big passions by Bach.
Concert life and lieder concerts are very close to Jan’s heart, and the collaboration with the soprano Elsebeth Dreisig in the duo ”Duetten på Pletten” takes up a large amount of space in Jan’s concert calendar.
Jan has recorded several CD ́s in a very wide repertoire, an i.e. he is a soloist in a series of Carl Nielsen recordings with Royal Liverpool Symphony Orchestra. Parallel with his career as a singer, Jan majored with master’s degree in Elite singing teaching, and today he is a vocal teacher at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music.
