The flutist Karen Zarganis and the guitarist Curt Kollavik were members of the acclaimed contemporary ensemble – Ensemble North. They wanted to create an ensemble based upon the wonderful songs of Carl Nielsen, only arranged for a trio by the composers of our time – Carl Nielsen in new clothes.
They asked the tenor Jan Lund to be the singer in the trio, and soon began the big task of deciding which songs definitely had to be in the collection, and the names of the composers they wanted to ask to ”fiddle” with the national song treasure of Carl Nielsen. This was in addition to seeking funding for the task ahead.
After some years in the life of the trio, Curt Kollavik decided to stop his career as a professional guitarist for a new career as a producer in the National Danish Radio. Karen and Jan decided to ask Michael Norman Sørensen to take Curt’s place in the trio; he luckily accepted, and today the Carl Nielsen Trio consists of Tenor; Jan Lund, Flutist; Karen Zarganis and Guitarist; Michael Norman Sørensen.
